Classify for Outlook

Classify for Outlook is the original email security marking add-in for Microsoft Outlook desktop software.

Classify for Outlook is a desktop application that is licensed on a per-device basis. If multiple users share a single computer, then, only one Classify licence is needed to support those users. If a user has multiple computers, then a Classify licence is needed for each computer. Per-device licensing means a customer must obtain a licence for each desktop (either physical or virtual) on, or from which the product is used or accessed. For example, when Microsoft Outlook is accessed remotely across an organization using Windows Remote Desktop Services, a separate Classify for Outlook licence is required for each desktop from which Microsoft Outlook is accessed. This normally equates to the maximum number of simultaneous connections that the terminal server is licensed to support.

Classify for Outlook is sold as a site licence. Anything more than a single copy is a site licence as long as the software is used and managed by the same organization. The discount is based upon the number of seats and is a logarithmic curve so the more seats you buy, the cheaper each seat becomes. The price is calculated by a mathematical formula and there are no discontinuities in the curve so if you have 93 users you can buy 93 seats. You don’t need to buy 100 to get into the next “price band”.

Classify for Outlook is available in three editions:

Standard Edition:

The Standard Edition of Classify for Outlook is used by some branches of the US military, NATO, and by non-US countries. It provides the capability to insert a classification label on the first line of an Outlook email message.

Declassification Support:

This edition has all of the features of the Standard Edition and adds declassification instructions to the end of the message body so that the format of the email meets the requirements of Executive Orders 12958 and 13292.

NMCI Extensions:

The third edition is an extended edition of the version with Declassification Support. NAVCYBERFOR and the Chief of Naval Operations asked that a customized version of Classify for Outlook be created for use on NMCI/SIPRNET. It provides enhancements to the user interface that give the user extra guidance in classification marking and provides a method of inserting country trigraph and organization tetragraph information when specifying release restrictions. It was the intention of NAVCYBERFOR and CNO that this version would become the standard edition for USN and USMC use.
